Latin Dose (2/2/09)

Talk about a cross over!

Hello everyone, I hope you had a great Super Bowl Sunday! This week I bring to you a cross over band that hasn’t been seen since Selena. They go by the name of Intocable (Untouchable) and that is what they are as far as Tejano/Norteño (Tex-Mex) music is concerned. Coming out of Zapata, Texas the band has climbed to the top of the charts and have garnished new fans that the Tejano/ Norteño scene has never seen before…YOUNG PEOPLE! If you ever have the opportunity to go to an Intocable show you will notice one thing, it’s a family affair. A multi generation of fans that has the band being played on pop radio stations where Shakira is followed by the accordion melodies of these young vaqueros. The band, like most in the genre, were plagued by the shadow of bigger stars and were labeled as knock offs. Through persistence and sticking to making great music the band shattered those shadows and now play arenas in Latin music markets here in the United States and in Mexico. In 2005 Intocable took home the Grammy for Best Mexican/Best Mexican-American Album for Intentimamente. This group is a prime example how many people actually listen and love this genre. I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of the genre but I do find myself going to these shows and buying their CDs, I guess I can’t help it. Have a great week and enjoy the tracks below.

“Dame un Besito” from Cruces de Camino (2006)

“Eres mi Droga” from Intimamente (2004)
