Mexico’s best kept bossa nova/pop secret!

This week I bring to you one of my favorite artist’s, Natalia Lafourcade. This young and talented musician has been captivating audiences’ with her vocals and feel good tunes for over 5 years now.  Her debut album appropriately titled Natalia Lafourcade went triple platinum in Mexico in 2003.  She became a teen sensation at the age of 17.  In 2005 Natalia began to find her voice and experiment with her sound.  This time around she was produced by Emmanuel del Real of Café Tacvba. To add to the change Natalia now went by Natalia y La Forquetina (the name of her band).  The addition of rock and indie music gave her bossa nova/pop sound a much needed raw edge.  The end result was Casa which earned them “Best Rock Album by a Group or Duo” at the 2006 Latin Grammy’s.  That same year Natalia announced that she would be going back to being a solo artist.  Now with two highly successful albums Natalia returns with Hu Hu Hu.  The album shows incredible growth and a real defined sound that was not as apparent in previous albums.  Although nearly four years between full lengths; Natalia has been hard at work.  She has toured as a musician with bands like Porter and most notably appeared on the Julieta Venegas Unplugged CD/DVD. Natalia will be at this year’s LAMC (Latin Alternative Music Conference) in New York and will have a brief showcase in San Diego this month.  Hopefully she will be back in the U.S. soon.  Enjoy the tracks below and have a good week, ciao.
