Punks Jump Up are a DJ crew out of the UK and they teamed up with Dave from Chromeo to drop this great track for all of the funkateers out there. The music video is awesome and the track is even better. Great for the summertime vibes. Their new EP is dropping on 4/30 and it comes with some great remixes.

Lana Del Rey’s major label debut was a big hit but I didn’t get too into it. I will admit that Born To Die is a very interesting album and definitely worth a listen. Personally, I’m just not that crazy about Lana Del Rey’s sound. I am, however, crazy about this RAC remix of “Blue Jeans”, one of the more popular tracks from Born To Die. Anyone else think Lana Del Rey looks a bit like Hermione from Harry Potter?

HOLY GHOST! – “Wait & See”

This funky little jam is fantastically retro, undeniably catchy, and the video is awesome. Holy Ghost! uses their own fathers to play the band members, it’s pretty hilarious. If you like this track, you will no doubt love the rest of the self-titled debut album which was released last month via DFA. Don’t stop til you get enough…

RABBITS RUNNING

Last Friday night, there was a great showcase of local bands at The Roxy. Rabbits Running (Robbie Fitzsimmons and Darren McGrath) left an indelible impression. Fitzsimmons started playing keys to a drum beat provided by McGrath and all of the sudden, Fitzsimmons let out a distinctive melodic scream that he would digitally loop and harmonize with other pitch perfect screams. The heavy synth, disco-rock was as intriguing as it was enjoyable. Rabbits Running’s sound was impressive and left everyone wanting more… Check out their demo EP below.

I love to check out the KCRW DJs’ album picks for each month. They’ve always got interesting choices but I particularly enjoy checking out the artists I’ve never heard of. This month, Mathieu Schreyer (12-3AM slot on Fridays) listed DISCODEINE’s self titled album as one of his favorites. I hadn’t heard of them, so I found an online stream and gave it a listen. It’s perfect to play while you’re at work, just as background music, but it would also work really well in the car- great driving music. “Singular” and “Synchronize” are my favorites so far. Nothing groundbreaking here, but it’s got a very cool vibe that you’re sure to enjoy…

My friend Annette sent me a link to check out a cool new act out of NY, Dean and Ravo. They make catchy, danceable hip hop tracks with fun beats and great lyrical delivery. These guys are good. Here’s the official bio for Dean and Ravo:
