Lana Del Rey’s major label debut was a big hit but I didn’t get too into it. I will admit that Born To Die is a very interesting album and definitely worth a listen. Personally, I’m just not that crazy about Lana Del Rey’s sound. I am, however, crazy about this RAC remix of “Blue Jeans”, one of the more popular tracks from Born To Die.
Anyone else think Lana Del Rey looks a bit like Hermione from Harry Potter?

The official video for “Ni**as In Paris” was released yesterday and, as someone who has never been a huge fan of music videos, I have to admit that this is pretty incredible. The video focuses on Jay-Z and Kanye West performing the song in front of a huge crowd of fans. The feeling of their live performance is brilliantly captured, intentionally highlighting why the two rappers are the contemporary kings of hip hop. The HD quality of the video and camera effects help get the job done too. It’s a mesmerizing visual experience and, for me, illustrating a live performance with a video like this beats a boring old interpretive, artsy-fartsy music video any day.

The New Limb meander between brilliant pop melodies and innovative arrangements and you cannot be anything but engaged, emotive, and/or excited for the ride. It’s musically ambitious but never indulgent. Ballads skew cinematically poignant and heartfelt before you could ever question your romantic insecurities. The vocal keeps a cohesive pop identity and lyrics provide a consistent narrative companion no matter where the songwriting and sonic textures take you.

Brandon & Leah are ready to storm your beaches, biatches. Malibu grown and ready to put the bon in your bonfire, they have undeniable hooks and the starpower to go with it. Acoustic foundations are topped with ukulele janks and rounded out with mixed percussion and fat lows. The understood swagger delivered in every vocal leaves you bobbing your head at a speakeasy pace.

Great new track from Los Angeles indie-garage-glam rock stars, Saint Motel. “Puzzle Pieces” is their first new release since their September 2009 EP ForPlay. They just sold out their 3rd Annual Zombie Prom for the third year in a row and have been playing some great shows and tours, including a big set at the Rock & Roll Circus at Lincoln Center in NY with Ariel Pink & Amazing Baby, and tours with Band Of Skulls & Nico Vega. They’ll be playing at The Palms in Las Vegas this Tuesday and Wednesday as part of MTV’s Spring Break. You can also catch their official SXSW showcase Saturday night (3/19) at Emo’s with Neon Trees, The Limousines, and more…

This song is too catchy not to post. It’s a guilty pleasure… A seriously guilty pleasure. I’m just not really a big Brett Dennen fan but I hate to take anything away from him. He’s clearly a talented songwriter and he has had a couple of songs I’ve enjoyed. But there is something about him that I find corny/cheesey. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but I can’t deny the feeling. I think I just need to get over it. This post is the first step. Glad we can work through this together…
