Mash Ups

Damn these are popular.  Mash Ups are kind of going through a surge in popularity right now.  Mash ups can be two or more new, popular songs mixed together (like mash up #1 by Terry UrbanLil Wayne’s “A Millie” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”), or two or more older, popular songs mixed together (like mash up #2 by A Plus D Notorious BIG’s “Going Back To Cali” and Red Hot Chili Peppers “Dani California”), or a mash up can be new and old songs, whether or not they’re popular or unpopular, mixed together (like mash up #3 by Bobb DeepMobb Depp’s “Shook One’s Pt II” and Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff”).  Check these out too:

First track is a mash up of Mobb Deep’s “Shook One’s Pt II” vocals blended together Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff”  by Jon Moskowitz & Swindle.  They also layered a beat on top of the Bob Marley classic which gives the mash-up more of a hip hop feel.  These guys actually made a whole album of Bob Marley/Mobb Deep mash-ups called The Infamous… BOBB DEEP, Queensbridge meets Kingston.  It’s a cool album but this is by far the best track.  I love this one…

Second track is “Last Dance” from B.R.A.M., an act backed by everybody’s friends, Vosotros (music for you all – www.vosotros.com).  Thanks to Neely for sending the link to check out the self-titled album.  Bram Inscore lead’s the band and the sound and feel of the album is a great combination of dance-rock and pop.  It’s no wonder that Bram is currently the bass player for Beck’s new touring band.  They’ve been all over the UK, Europe, and across the US and Canada so Bram has some serious touring experience.  Bram is definitely a talent you want to keep checking out (along with the girl playing guitar for Beck’s touring band…).

First song is “Hard Days Night” by a new hip hop crew called The Knuxwhose debut album, Remind Me In Three Days, comes out at the end of this month.  The Knux are 2 brothers, Al Millio and Krispy, and they produce the music themselves and play all of the instrumentation.  I first heard their most popular track, “Cappuccino” and the remix (both of which you can listen to on their myspace:http://www.myspace.com/theknux) almost a year ago so they have been around for a minute.  They rap a lot like Outkast and the beats are reminiscent of great 90’s hip hop acts like The Pharcyde.  These guys are legit, we’ll all be hearing a lot more about them in the future.

Second song was released back in May of this year.  It’s “Gold And A Pager” from the reigning blogosphere champions of hip hop, The Cool Kids.  If you haven’t heard about The Cool Kids then you need to wake up!  Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish (both living in Chicago) met through myspace and formed the group around 2005.  They didn’t start posting their tracks on myspace and blogs until around 2007 and they didn’t put an album out until the beginning of this year.  It’s called The Bake Saleso check it out if you’re into this track…
